Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory: The Current Building Closes on 11 January 2027

The Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory is the museum of Gosho Aoyama, the author of Detective Conan, in Hokuei, Tottori Prefecture. On 30 September 2026 it announced, in Japanese, that it is moving to a new building that opens in spring 2027, and that the last day in the current building is Monday 11 January 2027, a public holiday.

We did not find the announcement on the museum’s English site (checked 6 October 2026).

This guide covers the closing dates, how the dated tickets work, the discount for overseas visitors, and the route from the nearest station.

Quick Facts

The Last Day Is 11 January 2027

The notice, posted on 30 September 2026, says the current building closes with Monday 11 January 2027 as its last day, ahead of the move to a new building that opens in spring 2027. The museum’s goods shop, the Conan Tanteisha branch inside the museum, stays open from Thursday 14 January to Sunday 28 February 2027.

The notice gives the new building’s opening only as spring 2027. We did not find a date on the official site (checked 6 October 2026).

Tickets Are Dated, and Go on Sale a Month Ahead

The museum sells date-specific tickets online, on a booking site with an English version. A ticket is valid only on its date and has no time slot; the English page says that once inside, you can stay for the entire day. Tickets for each month go on sale at 10:00 Japan time on the 1st of the month before.

By that rule, tickets for December go on sale on 1 November 2026, and tickets for 1–11 January 2027 on 1 December 2026. These dates are our reading of the rule; the ticket site states the rule, not each date.

Payment is by Visa, Mastercard, JCB or American Express, and the card must be registered for 3D Secure 2. The other option is paying at a 7-Eleven in Japan, which adds a handling fee. You choose how to receive the ticket when you buy: a QR code that you show at the entrance, which has no fee, or a ticket printed at a 7-Eleven. Cancellation is free until 23:59 on the day before your visit, and changing the date means cancelling and buying again. A ticket paid for at a 7-Eleven cannot be cancelled once paid.

The museum’s Japanese visitor page adds a point we did not find on its English pages: same-day tickets are still sold at the exhibition reception. The page describes the advance ticket as one that makes sure you get in, not one that gets you in earlier, and says that just after opening on weekends and public holidays, advance and same-day ticket holders queue in separate lines.

Tour from Okayama
Tottori Sand Dunes & Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory Full-Day Tour (Klook)
What this is
A day tour from Okayama Station, with English listed as a guide language, that stops at the museum and at the Tottori Sand Dunes. Its page lists the museum stop as pay on site, so admission is not included. Check the dates it runs and its cancellation terms on its page before you book. If you book a date after 11 January 2027, the current building will have closed (above). We have not taken it.

The Passport Discount and the Birthday Rule

Overseas visitors pay 100 yen less: 600 yen for adults (19 and over), 400 yen for ages 13 to 18 and 200 yen for ages 7 to 12, instead of 700, 500 and 300 yen. The ticket site lists this price for overseas travellers and asks you to show your passport at entry. Children under 6 are free. The museum’s Japanese visitor page sets the child prices by school stage instead: 300 yen for elementary school pupils, and free for younger children. If you buy at the museum, the same page says a passport, a residence card or a JR-WEST RAIL PASS each takes 100 yen off an individual ticket.

Entry is also free on your birthday, if you show an official ID with your date of birth on it.

Busy Days and Numbered Tickets

For the Silver Week holidays from 19 to 23 September 2026, the museum ran timed entry. You needed an advance ticket or a numbered ticket handed out from 9:00 each morning, even to use only the goods shop. The notice said that if the advance tickets sold out, no numbered tickets would be handed out that day. The notice adds that the museum may hand out numbered tickets on other days too, without notice, depending on how crowded it is.

We did not find a notice about entry limits for the last weeks of the current building (checked 6 October 2026). The Silver Week notice appeared in the news list on the museum’s Japanese home page on 28 August 2026. For questions, the museum’s English site gives an email address, gamf@e-hokuei.net.

Getting to Gosho Aoyama Manga Factory

The nearest station is Yura on the JR San-in Line, which the museum calls Conan Station. Its English transportation page gives the train from Kurayoshi as 10 minutes. From the station, the museum is a 20-minute walk or a 5-minute taxi ride. From Osaka, the same page gives around 3 hours and 10 minutes to Kurayoshi on the Super Hakuto limited express.

For winter visits, the page asks you to check Tottori’s road snow information site, yukinavi.net, before coming.

What this is
The train to Yura Station runs from Kurayoshi. If you want to stay nearby, this opens a hotel search for Kurayoshi, so you can set your own dates. We have not stayed at any of these. We are not recommending a hotel — we are pointing you at the list.

Before You Go

The closing date, the closed days and the entry rules are published on the museum’s site, mostly in Japanese. The museum says it will announce any temporary closure on its website and social media. Checked 6 October 2026.
